Hello Todai…as if the colorful, delicious images on their website weren’t enough to entice me to check out this international seafood and sushi buffet. Located around Koreatown in NYC, the restaurant offers a delicious array of self-serve food and waitresses ready to pour you another cup of tea or to clear your table. Dinner is $10 more expensive than lunch, so unfortunately I could only stuff myself silly for lunch one Wednesday summer afternoon ($18.95 for Monday to Thursday lunch). I wasn’t disappointed though by the variety of sushi and hot food options, and there were plenty of other customers there loading up their plates. (I think they just have a few more hot dishes and more seafood for the dinner menu). It’s recommended that you get there when it opens to avoid any possible lines, and get there on time we did. We were seated immediately, and after we put down our bags and placed our beverage requests, onto the buffet tables we scurried!
I’m not afraid to admit my weakness to unlimited food. Place a bowl of good food in front of me even when I insist I’m not hungry, and that food will somehow end up in my stomach. (Glub glub, I’m a goldfish)
Plate #1 consisted of mostly hot entrees, and I tried a variety of mussels, chicken teriyaki, gyoza, tonkatsu, white fish, yaki soba, chicken wing, crab, and more. I definitely overfilled my plate in eagerness. I remember one of the white fish had one too many bones (forgot the name), and the crab is an entire crab so you have to break it apart to eat the small amounts of meat hidden inside.
Plate #2 consisted of items from the sushi bar. The raw fish was average, but hey, what do you expect from a buffet table? I had my fill of salmon and tuna, and even tried the tamago (egg) sushi. Todai also had an assortment of sushi rolls I had never seen before.

I've been told that a certain smile breaks across my face whenever the subject of food is brought up, a smile that radiates the purest forms of delight and happiness. Food transcends beyond the smell and taste of what's presented in front of me; it's an experience to be enjoyed, indulged, shared with those I love. Working and living in NYC continually opens culinary doors, from hole-in-the-walls to upscale (even stuffy) dining. I never take any morsel of food for granted, and I'm often THAT girl at the table found licking her plate at the end of the meal.
